In-depth interview with Andrew Baggaley

Teqpong

During the lockdown, Teqpong’s Sport Operations Manager, William Maybanks caught up with the 4-time Ping Pong World Champion, GB Olympian and table tennis legend Andrew Baggaley.

Andrew talked to us about his childhood, his relationship with his coach, his first thoughts about teqpong, becoming a record-breaking 4-time world champion of Ping Pong, his mental strength, pineapple on pizza, and a lot more.

What were your first thoughts about teqpong?

I saw it on TableTennisDaily to start with, and I just thought this is an interesting innovation, now that ping pong has been around quite a few years and well established. I thought it was quite interesting and I liked the concept of the service and different elements to it and that it’s a really good innovation and was exciting to see and also to play in the first World Championships.

Do you think anyone can be a good coach?

I think you have to know and have a players perspective and have to get involved with the play, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be a great player to be a great coach, but you have to be around it and really immerse yourself in it. You can’t learn it from a book you have to be involved.
